IV Drip/Fluids
Better care of pets means that we are more aware than we were years ago of their need for fluids. We recommend that all pets that are having a general anaesthetic are placed on IV fluids during their procedure. Some we will keep on after the surgery is finished to help their recovery.
For many animals that are unwell and not eating or drinking, IV fluids are the first most essential treatment that we start, often before we have fully understood the underlying disease.
Pets at Tea Tree Gully Veterinary Hospital get sterile catheters placed into their legs through which fluids and medication can be delivered by IV pumps set to your pet’s individual needs. This way we can have continuous IV fluid support of critically ill patients 24 hours a day.
